KANPUR: At least 32 people in Uttar Pradesh’s Unnao were operated for cataract at a government hospital under torchlight on Monday night, prompting authorities to transfer the district’s top health official and suspend a doctor for negligence and violation of norms.
The surgeries were conducted under the light of two torches at the primary healthcare centre (PHC) in Nawabganj, which like many rural areas of Uttar Pradesh gets electricity for only 12 hours a day.

RAE BARELI/NEW DELHI: At least 20 people were killed and around 100 injured in an explosion at a government-run coal-fired power plant in Uttar Pradesh’s Wednesday afternoon.
The National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) plant was shut down and several workers were feared trapped under the debris. The cause of the explosion wasn’t immediately known.

LUCKNOW: A Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) worker, who was also associated with the BJP , was shot dead in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghazipur district on Saturday morning, triggering violence in the area.
Police said around 7 am two bike-borne men pumped six bullets into Rajesh Mishra (35) at his construction-material shop at Bramhapura village. He died on the spot.
In a big morale booster, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh Government on Monday announced Rs 10,000 reward for every girl in the state who passed class 10th. The announced was made by Uttar Pradesh’s deputy chief minister Dinesh Sharma.
While the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) results have been declared, Uttar Pradesh Board results for High School are yet to be announced. The pass percentage in 10th class results was recorded at 90.95, a 5.7% drop when compared to 96.21 in 2016.
This year, the Central Board of Secondary Education conducted the class 10th exams from March 9 to April 10. There was a slight delay in conducting the exam due to state assembly elections in Punjab, Manipur, Goa, Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh. The delay in conducting the exam subsequently delayed date when the final announcement was made – they have an academic schedule to adhere to and this delay may impact it in a dreadful manner.
