Haryana 4th state to ban Padmaavat after CBFC nod

After Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat, Haryana on Tuesday became the fourth state to ban Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmaavat citing “law and order situation in the state”.

Before the assembly polls in Gujarat in November last year, the state government had banned the film, which was earlier titled Padmavati.

Based on 16th century Sufi poet Malik Muhammad Jayasi’s epic poem Padmavat, the movie stars Deepika Padukone in the titular role while Ranveer Singh plays invader Alauddin Khilji. Shahid Kapoor essays the role of Maharawal Ratan Singh.

No need for national anthem in theatres

The Centre on Monday asked the Supreme Court to put on hold its order that made playing the national anthem in cinema halls mandatory, effectively reversing its support of the November 2016 directive that drew flak from free speech activists.

More than year after the order was implemented, the government said it had constituted an inter-ministerial committee to frame new guidelines on playing of the national anthem and would require six months to finalise them.

Five major modifications needed in Padmavati including name of the movie- Censor board

The censor board on Saturday said it would clear controversial Bollywood film Padmavati after suggesting five major modifications, including changing the title to Padmavat, but the move failed to pacify Rajput groups that allege the movie distorts history.

A fringe group warned of vandalising cinema halls if the ~150crore movie was released and Vishvaraj Singh, a descendent of the royal family of Mewar, called the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) “ignoble and unprofessional”.

M.P. banned Padmavati movie and Rajasthan wants necessary changes

NEW DELHI/BHOPAL/CHANDIGARH: Madhya Pradesh banned Bollywood film Padmavati on Monday but the Supreme Court refused to stay its release.

The top court said the film was yet to get the censor board’ s clearance. According to a three-judge bench led by Chief Justice Dipak Misra, the court can’ t stop a statutory body, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), from carrying out its duty.

The CBFC returned the film to the producers, saying the application form was “incomplete ”.

SC may modify the order National anthem in Cinema Halls

The Supreme Court on Monday asked the Centre to consider amending the national flag code for regulating the playing of national anthem in cinema halls across the country.
