Delhi man pretends to be doctor in AIIMS for 5 months, police surprised by his knowledge of medicines

Delhi Police have arrested a 19-year-old medical aspirant who was impersonating as an AIIMS doctor for the past five months. The accused, Adnan Khurram, used his fake identity to make friends across departments and among medical students. He even participated in events meant for doctors – from strikes to marathon, said the AIIMS resident doctors’ association. When police arrested him on Saturday, they were surprised by his ‘knowledge’ of medicines, the names of doctors and department heads at AIIMS.

The accused also had accessed a diary issued to the doctors.

Karnataka cabinet agrees to consider Lingayats as separate religious minority

The Karnataka government on Monday agreed to consider the Lingayats as a separate religion, seeking the support of the powerful Hindu community ahead of assembly elections this year.

“Based on the recommendations of Karnataka State Minorities Commission, the state cabinet has unanimously decided to grant status of religious minority to Lingayats and Veerashaiva Lingayats (believers of 12th century social reformer Basava’s ideologies),” state law minister TB Jayachandra told media after a cabinet meeting.

*   The Constitution of India provides for a single and uniform citizenship for whole of India.

*  The Citizenship act, 1955, provides for the acquisition of Indian citizenship in the following ways:

  • Generally every person born in India on or after January, 1950, shall be a citizen of India if either of his parents was a citizen of India at the time of his birth. 
  • A person who was outside India on or after 26 January, 1950, shall be a citizen of India by descent(the origin or background of a person in terms of family or nationality), if his father was a citizen of India at the time of that person’s birth.
  • A person can apply for and get registered as a citizen of India by the competent authority if he satisfies the conditions laid down.
  • A person residing in India for more than 7 years and having adequate knowledge of a constitutionally recognised Indian language can seek citizenship by naturalisation , provided he is not a citizen of country where Indian citizens are prevented from becoming citizens by naturalisation.
  • If any new territory becomes a part of India, the persons of the territory become citizens of India .

Hackers stole more than 1 billion roubles ($17 million) from Russian banks using the Cobalt Strike security-testing tool in 2017, a central bank official said on Tuesday.

Russia is under intense scrutiny over cyber crime following allegations hackers backed by Moscow have attacked targets in the United States and Europe, accusations the Kremlin has repeatedly denied.

Now pay more to see Taj Mahal: Rs 200 extra to see main mausoleum

Tourists will have to pay more from April 1 to see the Taj Mahal after the central government decided to raise the entry fee as part of its plans to preserve the 17th-century Mughal-era mausoleum and manage the swirling crowd that come in thousands every day to marvel at the monument.

Officials of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) said the hike will be applicable to domestic tourists and will not affect foreigners, who already pay higher charges for entry.

UP board exams 2018: Over 1.8 lakh students absent on first day

More than 1.8 lakh students did not appear for Uttar Pradesh board examinations on the first day following the strict measures initiated by the Yogi Adityanath-led government to check copying in the exams.

The UP Board examination for Class 10 and Class 12 commenced on Tuesday and will continue till March 12.

“On the first day of examinations on Tuesday, over 1,80,826 students did not appear. It included over 53,100 high school and over 1.27 lakh intermediate students,” Deputy Director Education Vikas Srivastava said.

Kasganj violence: UP police arrest another suspect in Chandan Gupta murder case

The Uttar Pradesh police on Saturday arrested another accused over the killing of Abhishek Gupta, aka Chandan, during clashes in Kasganj on Republic Day.

Kasganj superintendent of police, Piyush Srivastav, said special operations group (SOG) arrested Rahat Qureshi and booked him for murder, continuing its crackdown against the January 26 incident.

Twenty three-year-old Chandan, who was part of a tiranga yatra, was shot dead when bikers holding the tricolour and saffron flags wanted right of the way through an area earmarked for a ceremony in the predominantly Muslim neighbourhood, triggering communal violence. At least three shops, two buses and a car were also torched in the clashes.
