NEW DELHI: Ahead of New Year’s eve celebrations, the Narcotics Control Bureau has arrested four students from some of the top colleges in Delhi-NCR and seized 1 kg of hashish and three LSD blotters from them. While two students, Gaurav Kumar and Tenzin Phunchog, are from Delhi University’s Hindu College, the other two, Sam Mallick and Anirudh Mathur, are students at Jawaharlal Nehru University and Amity University respectively, according to the bureau. “The hashish was bought from Himachal Pradesh villages for around ~3 lakh. We are yet to identify the source of the LSD blotters that also cost around ~3 lakh,” said SK Jha, deputy director general, NCB (Northern Range).

SHIMLA: The Himachal Pradesh government has brought an ordinance to modify the state’s excise act to enable hotels, restaurants and bars near highways to serve alcohol, days after the neighbouring state of Punjab took the amendment route to bypass the Supreme Court’s 2016 order to shut down all liquor shops along state and national highways.
The Congress government in the hill state added a new section, 23A, in the Excise Act, 2011, to change the definition of sale of liquor to service in case of hotels, restaurant, clubs and similar notified places even if they fall within the 220m distance from the edge of the national highway.
