ONGC agrees to buy 51% HPCL stake

Giving a big boost to the government’s disinvestment programme, oil giant ONGC has finally entered into an agreement to buy a majority stake in HPCL, adding Rs 36,915 crore to Arun Jaitley’s kitty for this financial year itself. ONGC has entered into a share purchase agreement for acquiring the government’s entire 51.11% stake of HPCL on 20th January 2018 at a cash purchase consideration of RS 473.97 per share with a total acquisition cost of Rs 36,915 crore, the state-run exploration and production company said in a statement. Vijay Keshav Gokhale will be our next foreign secretary

Vijay Keshav Gokhale, a 1981-batch officer of the Indian Foreign Service, will succeed S Jaishankar as India’s next foreign secretary, a government statement said on Monday. Gokhale is currently serving as secretary, economic relations, in the external affairs ministry.

He will take over once Jaishankar’s extended term ends on January 28. Gokhale will be the third foreign secretary to serve the Modi-led government.

Ready to extend deadline to link Aadhaar with services: Centre to SC

NEW DELHI: The central government told the Supreme Court on Monday that it was willing to extend up to March 31 next year the deadline to link Aadhaar with various schemes and services, including bank accounts and phone numbers.

The current deadlines for linking of bank accounts and mobile phone numbers with Aadhaar,  are December 31 this year and February 6, 2018 respectively.

The Union government has asked the Uttar Pradesh government to implead itself in the ongoing case in the Supreme Court regarding real estate developer Jaypee Infratech’s bankruptcy on the grounds that the real estate developer flouted the new Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act — a move that could make life tougher for the already embattled firm.
Separately, on Wednesday, the Supreme Court barred 13 promoters and directors of Jaypee Infratech’s parent Jaiprakash Associates from selling their properties although it allowed them to deposit the ₹2,000 crore they had been asked to, in instalments. Continue reading

Parliament’s winter session will start from Dec. 15

Winter session of Parliament is likely to start from December 15, a day after the second and final phase of polling in Gujarat, and end on January 5, said sources. Delhi Metro commuters can now register FIRs at 23 stations

NEWDELHI: Commuters who face harassment, stalking or theft in Delhi Metro will not have to go to police stations to lodge a complaint. The Delhi Police has issued an order, asking its staff to be present at their booths at 23 Metro stations and help passengers in filing complaints.

According to the order, police personnel will be present at the booths between 9am and 5pm. Once more staff is available, the facility will be extended roundthe-clock and across all Metro stations. The booths will also be provided computers so that e-FIRs can be filed.
