UP board exams 2018: Over 1.8 lakh students absent on first day

More than 1.8 lakh students did not appear for Uttar Pradesh board examinations on the first day following the strict measures initiated by the Yogi Adityanath-led government to check copying in the exams.

The UP Board examination for Class 10 and Class 12 commenced on Tuesday and will continue till March 12.

“On the first day of examinations on Tuesday, over 1,80,826 students did not appear. It included over 53,100 high school and over 1.27 lakh intermediate students,” Deputy Director Education Vikas Srivastava said.

CBSE revises Class 12 exam date sheet

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has made a change to its controversial Class 12 exam date sheet for 2018 and will now hold the Physical Education test later than scheduled.

The board issued a notification on its official website (cbse.nic.in ) on Wednesday stating that the Class 12 examination date for Physical Education, has been revised to 10.30am on April 13 from April 9 (as given in the earlier released schedule.) The dates for examination of all other subjects for Class 10 and Class 12 remain the same.

Moderation of marks in CBSE Class 12 to go

NEWDELHI: Inflated marks appear set to go from this academic year with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) preparing to remove a clause in its marking system, or moderation policy, which spikes its Class 12 results.

The CBSE examination committee will meet later this week to consider doing away with the clause in the policy that the board adopts before declaring results of the school finals.

“We want to ensure true marks of students are reflected in the board exams and to maintain the pass parity, marks of students are moderated. This is unfair on those who work hard as moderation is not applicable if a student gets 95 marks or above,” a senior board official said.

Relief to class 12 students- can approach the board for reevaluation under “verification scheme”

NEW DELHI: In a relief to students who took the Class 12 board exams this year, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) told the Delhi high court on Friday that students who feel that their answer sheets were not correctly evaluated can approach the board under its verification scheme.

The CBSE said that it will give reprieve to those students who have issues with their marks but will be unable to challenge it as the board has done away with re-evaluation process.

Additional Solicitor General Sanjay Jain, appearing for the board, told the court that, “Within the limit of our verification scheme we will look into the students’ grievances”. He said the outcome of the verification will be communicated to the students on first-come-first-serve basis. Jain further said the marking schemes of CBSE for respective subjects shall be uploaded on its website soon.
