On Wednesday at the PCA Stadium, the current India ODI skipper played another gem of an innings. Stats will tell you that he became the only batsman to score three double centuries in ODIs.
Nobody can pace an innings better than Rohit Sharma, and, on Wednesday, the opener and stand-in Indian cricket team skipper gave Sri Lanka a taste of his talent with a mammoth knock of 208 in 153 balls that included 13 fours and 12 massive sixes.
Known for making big knocks, this was Rohit’s record third double ton.
Rohit’s first double century (209) came against Australia in Bengaluru (2013), while the second (264) came against Sri Lanka at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata, in 2014.
His 100 came off 115 balls, and included nine fours and a six. But, after the ton, he was unstoppable and hit 11 maximums, and just four boundaries. In the second-wicket partnership, Rohit scored 114, while Iyer’s contribution was 88.
From the century mark, Rohit just took just 36 balls to reach his double ton. In the process, he broke a number of records, propelling India to a massive 392 runs.
Rohit became the highest scorer for India at the PCA Stadium in Mohali on Wednesday. Previously, Virat Kohli’s 154 — which he made against New Zealand in 2016 — was the top score.
