FIFA lifted Kuwait’s ban from international football.

FIFA says it has lifted Kuwait’s ban from international football. FIFA President Gianni Infantino is in Kuwait to confirm the government is no longer interfering in how the federation is being run. According to FIFA, “Kuwait Parliament has adopted a new sports law” which complies with its statutes. The ban was imposed in October 2015, leaving Kuwait unable to play its World Cup qualifiers.

Same Sex marriage legalised by Australia

SYDNEY : Australia became the 26th nation to legalise same-sex marriage on Thursday, prompting cheers and singing from a packed parliament public gallery in a country where some states ruled homosexual acts to be illegal until just 20 years ago.

Lawmakers, who had cast aside a conservative push to allow religious objectors to refuse service to same-sex couples, waved rainbow flags and embraced on the floor of the chamber, after the overwhelming vote in favour of the bill.

Taj Mahal second best UNESCO world heritage site after Angkor Wat

The Taj Mahal, India’s iconic ivory-white marble mausoleum in Agra, is the second best UNESCO world heritage site in the world, according to a new survey.

With over 8 million visitors per year, the monument of love built by Mughal emperor Shah Jahan in the memory of his wife Mumtaz Mahal, is rated after Cambodia’s Angkor Wat.

Conducted by online travel portal TripAdvisor, the survey lists the UNESCO Cultural and Natural heritage sites best rated by travellers around the globe. Continue reading

Donald Trump recognised Jerusalem as Israel’s capital

US President Donald Trump recognised Jerusalem as Israel’s capital despite intense Arab, Muslim and European opposition. He said that the state department would begin preparations to relocate the US embassy from Telaviv to Jerusalem.

The status of Jerusalem is a critical issue in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, with both sides claiming the city as their capital.

In a frantic series of calls, the leaders of Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan, the European Union, France, Germany and Turkey all warned Trump against the move.

Lashkar-e-Taiba chief Hafiz Saeed files petition in UN to remove terrorist tag

NEWDELHI: Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) founder Hafiz Saeed has moved the United Nations asking that he be removed from the list of designated terrorists, senior Indian government officials said.

Saeed, the mastermind of the Mumbai attacks, was put in the list on December 10, 2008 by the United Nations Security Council. The three-day long terror strike at multiple targets in the city between November 26 and 28, 2008 claimed 166 lives. Continue reading

Latin America is world’s most violent region for women: UN

Latin America and the Caribbean is the most violent region in the world for women, the United Nations said Wednesday, highlighting Central America and Mexico as particularly dangerous.

In a report presented in Panama, UN Women and the UN Development Programme (UNDP) found assaults on women persisted in the region despite severe laws aimed at curbing the phenomenon.

“The issue of violence against women in Latin America is critical. It’s the most violent region in the world against women outside of conflict contexts,” Eugenia Piza-Lopez, head of UNDP’s gender mission in Latin America, told AFP. Continue reading

Israel PM Benjamin Netanyahu in India from January 14

NEWDELHI: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is scheduled to arrive in India for a threeday visit on January 14 as the two countries work towards a free trade agreement.

The two countries are also working on a proposal for the Heron TP, medium-altitude, long-endurance, unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) developed by Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) to meet multiple mission needs of the Indian armed forces.

Upon his arrival, Netanyahu will be received by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Ahmedabad, like he did China’s Xi Jinping and Japan’s Shinzo Abe. Continue reading
