Girl deboards train for water, gang­raped after missing it

MEERUT : A teenage girl, who was travelling from Fatehgarh in Punjab to Bijnore district, was gang-raped by three youths near Saharanpur station on Friday when she deboarded the train to purchase water at the station. Police arrested all three accused from Saharanpur villages and registered a case. The Saharanpur SSP said that rape was not confirmed in the medical examination but “we initiated action against the accused on the basis of the girl’s statement.”

Modi to hold talks with Trump on June 26

New Delhi : PM Narendra Modi will visit Washington later this month for his first meeting with President Donald Trump. The External Ministry said Mr. Modi will meet Trump on June 26. For India , the key concerns will be Trump’s decisions to pull out of the Paris climate accord and a review of the H-1B visa programme.

Drug to treat Blood Cancer developed

A new drug for blood cancer that may provide better treatment alone or combined with chemotherapy has been developed by a team led by an Indian origin scientist. In a study, the drug was successfully tested in patient samples and on mice. There was no side effect.

SBI cuts interest on home loans above rs. 75 lakh

Mumbai : Close on the heels of RBI’s policy action, India’s largest lender State Bank of India has lowered interest rates by 10 basis points on home loans above rs. 75 lakh. The new rates are effective June 15, the bank said in a statement here on Friday. For the salaries Woman, the news rate will be 8.55 % while for others, it is 8.60%.

ISRO's heaviest rocket

Isro’s heaviest rocket, GSLV MK-III, takes off from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota on Monday. Bearing communication satellite GSAT-19, the 640-tonne carrier is also referred to as ‘fat boy’ by Scientists. The rocket boasts a powerful engine that has been developed in India. Programme managers hope to reduce reliance on European engines. The GSLV MK III rocket carried a satellite weighing more than three tonnes into a high orbit above Earth, a landmark achievement as India had struggled to match the heavier payloads of other space giants.

Pak- origin man identified among 3 London attackers

London : A Pakistani- origin man was among three knife- wielding militants responsible for carrying out the London terror attack that killed seven people and injured 49, according to a media report. The man, identified as ‘Abz’, is believed to have been the ring leader of the trio, The Mirror reported.

Clinical trial begins for Chikungunya Vaccine # short stories

New Delhi :  Bharat Biotech said on Monday that the first phase of human clinical trial of the indigenously  developed chikungunya vaccine is underway in India to evaluate its safety, tolerability and immunogenicity. According to a press release issued by the vaccine maker, the ” placebo-controlled” study, involved 60 healthy volunteers, would test escalating doses of the vaccine.

KATHMANDU: India handed over a number of vehicles to Nepal’s election commission on Monday, following through on prime Minister Narendra Modi’s assurance to assist in the country’s upcoming local elections. Indian ambassador to Nepal Manjeev Singh Puri handed over more than 80 Two wheelers and four wheelers to chief election commissioner Ayodhee Prasad Yadav as logistical support for the May 14 elections. The handover took place 5 days after Modi in a phone conversation with his Nepali counterpart Pushma Kamal Dahal expressed India’s commitment to the smooth conduct of the polls.

SBI CUTS TERM DEPOSIT RATES BY UP TO 50 BPS

Mumbai: State Bank of India(SBI) has cut its term deposit rates by up to 50 basis points for various maturities. The rates have been revised for medium and long term deposits and for amount below rs. 1 crore . For two to less than three years deposits, SBI will offer 6.25%, compared to 6.75% earlier, for a similar maturity period, the deposit rates for senior citizens have been cut to 6.75% from 7.25%. For deposits maturing between three years and ten years, the rates have been lowered by 25 basis points to 6.50%. The lender will be offering the new rates for fresh deposits and renewals and are applicable from April 29,2017. The bank is offering 6.90% for one year to 455 days term deposits.
